Does your institution receive federal research funds? If so, are you familiar with the requirements of NSPM-33?

The experienced presenters will assist the attendees:

· Understand the requirements of NSPM-33 for institutions receiving federal research funds;

· Evaluate your Conflict of Interest program in light of recent laws and regulations surrounding research security;

· Identify gaps and learn of common pitfalls in Conflict of Interest programs; and

· Learn some ways to bridge the gaps at your institution

Presenter: Dr. Marcy Huey, Director of Compliance, University of Alabama System Office

In this role, Marcy is responsible for coordination and assurance of compliance functions across three R1 campuses and the hospital and medical enterprise. The campuses in the UA System employees over 40,000 individuals, and had a combined enrollment of nearly 70,000 students, awarding over 18,000 degrees and certifications annually. UAB Medicine is the Number 1 hospital in Alabama and the 8th largest in the country. Prior to her role at the System Office, Marcy served as the Executive Director of Institutional Compliance in the Office of Compliance, Ethics, and Regulatory Affairs at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. In this role, she provided direct oversight of policy management, institutional conflict of interest programs, compliance training, and privacy, among other projects. Marcy has a PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies focusing on academic compliance culture from The University of Alabama. She has a BS

in Biochemistry and an MS in Chemistry from Auburn University. She is a Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional as well as a Leading Professional in Ethics and Compliance.

Presenter: Kristin Roberts, JD, CCEP, CIPP/US, Assistant Director, Division of Institutional Compliance & Privacy within the Office of Audit, Compliance & Privacy, Auburn University

Kristin is the Conflict of Interest program manager, provides guidance on ethics, conducts compliance trainings, and assists with the university's Privacy program including third-party vendor vetting. She has ten years of higher education experience at AU. Prior to Auburn, Kristin was an Assistant Attorney General for the Missouri Attorney General, Chris Koster, for five years, practicing law in the area of Consumer Protection. She litigated consumer fraud cases related to telecommunications, securities, data breaches, auto warranties, and multi-state litigation. Kristin holds a Juris Doctor degree with an Emphasis in Entrepreneurial Law from the University of Missouri - Kansas City and a B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication from Drake University.

Moderator: Judy Spain, J.D., CCEP

Judy currently serves as the GICA Compliance Program Consultant and serves on the Board, Society for Corporate Compliance and Ethics. She is a Professor Emeritus, an attorney licensed in Kentucky, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, and is a Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional. She served as General Counsel and Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer at Eastern Kentucky University and Manhattanville College, where she developed and implemented compliance programs. Judy is the author of the first book on higher education compliance, Higher Education Compliance: Blueprint for Success. Judy is also the author of Compliance Risk Assessments: An Introduction published by the Society for Corporate Compliance and Ethics. Her third book, Higher Education Compliance: What Governing Boards Really Need to Know is available in paperback, Kindle, and audiobook.
